Justin is Via’s boyfriend. When he meets Auggie, he is surprised by his face at first. But very quickly he sees that Auggie is just a kid who likes Star Wars and has a great family. Justin notices how much Via’s parents love both children. He realizes that the “universe” (life, luck, biology) was not kind to Auggie, but his family and real friends are kind. This is the lesson: we cannot control how we are born, but we can control how we treat each other.
